The Joe Moore Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football. Particularly, the award seeks to honor an offensive line that displays “toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique, and finishing.” The Longhorns’ offensive line was named to the Joe Moore Midseason Honor Roll, the committee announced on Tuesday, October 17th.
The Longhorns are sitting with a 5-1 record midway through the season, and a large part of their offensive success can be attributed to the solid play of Kyle Flood’s offensive line. Texas returned all five starters from last season for the first time in school history (LT Kelvin Banks, LG Hayden Conner, C Jake Majors, RG Cole Hutson, RT Christian Jones) and helped the Longhorns amass more than 500 total yards of offense in each of their last three games. Texas is averaging 185 yards on the ground and 300 yards in the air each game, and sophmore running back Jonathan Brooks ranks ninth in the nation in rushing with 726 yards and six touchdowns.
The Longhorns are one of 23 offensive line units named to the award’s mideseason honor roll. The Joe Moore Award Committee will announce the semifinalists on November 14, the finalists on December 5 and the winner in late December.
