Texas has landed a key addition to its defensive line with the transfer of Hero Kanu from Ohio State. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound defensive lineman visited Austin over the weekend before deciding to make the move to the Longhorns.
Kanu, who played in 29 games over two seasons with the Buckeyes, recorded 14 tackles and one sack during his time in Columbus. Originally a highly touted prospect out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California, he was ranked No. 129 nationally in the 2022 class by 247Sports.
Kanu brings superb quickness and athleticism for his size, showcasing an explosive get-off at the snap and a relentless high motor. His ability to push the pocket and disrupt plays in the backfield makes him a valuable addition to Texas’ defensive front.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Kanu adds depth and talent to the Longhorns’ defensive line, joining fellow transfers Cole Brevard (Purdue) and Travis Shaw (North Carolina). His size, skill set, and experience will help bolster the trenches along the Texas defensive line.
