Texas offensive lineman Brandon Baker and Trevor Goosby have been named to the preseason watch list for the 81st Outland Trophy. The list was released on Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America and Greater Omaha Sports Committee and it honors the nation’s top interior lineman on offense or defense. Baker, a junior and Goosby, a senior, are both first-time selections to the prestigious list.
Texas has established a strong record with the Outland Trophy in recent years with two of the last three awards and five total. In 2024, former Longhorn left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. won the trophy, while defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat won it in 2023. Texas’ previous winners were Scott Appleton in 1963, Tommy Nobis in 1965 and Brad Shearer in 1977.
Goosby enters the season with a growing list of preseason honors. He was named to Walter Camp’s Preseason All-America First Team on June 30 and received Preseason All-SEC First Team honors on July 24. He started all 13 games at left tackle last season and was selected to the First-Team All-SEC.
Baker has also gained recognition going into the season after earning Preseason All-SEC Third Team honors on July 24. He started all 13 games at right tackle last season and gives Texas another experienced presence on an offensive line that has become one of the program’s strengths.
With both tackles on the watch list, Texas once again finds itself in the mix for one of college football’s most prestigious individual honors.
