ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Courtney Ramey scored 14 points for the Texas Longhorns (2-0, 0-0), including the game-winning layup over the Davidson Wildcats (1-1, 0-0) en route to a 78-76 victory in Round One of the Maui Invitational in Asheville, North Carolina. Ramey’s bucket with :20 remaining in the game came after a call that originally gave the ball to Davidson but was reversed after the replay showed it was touched last by the Wildcats’ Sam Mennenga.
On the ensuing possession, Mennenga missed a three point attempt but Davidson maintained possession via an offensive rebound. Mennenga had the last shot but missed another three pointer as time expired.
The Longhorns shot 48% from the floor, including 29% from three point range. Davidson shot 57% from the floor and 26% from behind the arc.
Freshman Greg Brown scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds while Andrew Jones contributed 12 points in 31 minutes played.
Sam Mennenga led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The Longhorns are back in action again on Tuesday at 12:30 PM and will face the winner of the Indiana vs. Providence game which tips off at 1:30 PM CST.
