AUSTIN, Texas — The Longhorns fell from No. 1 to No. 7 in the newly released Associated Press Top 25 Poll after a 27-24 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.
Texas dropped six spots, ending a four-week stronghold atop the rankings. Texas is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play.
Georgia moved to No. 1 following a 20-17 victory at Alabama. Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Indiana and Alabama rounded out the top six. BYU, Ole Miss and Texas Tech followed Texas to complete the Top 10.
Oklahoma secured Saturday’s victory on Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal as time expired. Texas quarterback Arch Manning threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, helping the Sooners hand the Longhorns their first loss of the season.
The defeat ended Texas’ streak of 38 consecutive victories when leading entering the fourth quarter.
Texas had remained No. 1 through wins over UTSA and Tennessee after beating Ohio State 24-23. The Longhorns defeated UTSA 30-6 and Tennessee 20-17 before facing Oklahoma.
Ohio State moved to No. 4 in Sunday’s poll, three spots ahead of Texas despite its earlier loss to the Longhorns. Alabama remained one spot ahead of Texas at No. 6 after its loss to Georgia.
