Point Guard Sterling Gibbs announced yesterday that he will be transferring from the University of Texas basketball program, citing reasons beyond basketball that contributed to his decision. With Myck Kabongo’s decision to return to Texas for his sophmore season and the imminent arrival of touted point guard Javan Felix, Gibbs most likely saw that he would be faced with very limited playing time next season. He averaged roughly 7 minutes per game this season as Kabongo’s backup. Gibbs is a long way from his family and his home in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, which probably had a lot to do with his decision to leave at the end of the semester. Gibbs is a good player with a lot of potential and he will be a welcome addition and asset to whichever school he decides to play for next. We wish Sterling the best in his basketball endeavors.
