Football is a game about numbers: points, touchdowns, yards passing, yards rushing, yards receiving, and even sacks. Fans and the media are quick to applaud a team’s most prominent players, which are typically the ones who post the biggest numbers. But as we all know, numbers don’t always tell the whole story. In every game, there are players who are overlooked and don’t receive the praise or attention they deserve. The performances of these “unsung heroes†are often overshadowed by the stars of the team.
There are many storylines coming from the Longhorns’ victory over the Mean Green in Saturday’s season opener: John Harris surprisingly leading the team in receptions, Johnathan Gray showing no lingering effects from his Achilles injury, Malcolm Brown running the ball well, and David Ash putting in a solid performance after being sidelined for almost a year. Defensively, Cedric Reed and Malcom Brown already looking like two of the best defensive linemen in the country.
