This is it..Marquise Goodwin, a wide receiver on the Texas football team, earned his Olympic ticket by winning the men’s long jump. His winning leap was 27 feet, 4 inches.  He will be missed but the Olympics trumps football. Earlier this year he won his second NCAA Championship earlier with a jump of 27 feet. The 27’4″ was a personal best.  Goodwin is not alone.  Former Longhorn Troy Dumais will head to his fourth Olympic games as he won the 3-meter synchronized springboard with partner Kristian Ipsen.
Troy Dumais’ two brothers, Justin and Dwight, finished in third place overall with 1,151.46 points. Justin gave Texas a diver in each of the top three spots in the event. The three Dumais brothers will also compete in the individual 3-meter springboard finals on Sunday.
Among the 34 UT swimmers going to Omaha, 25 are from the 2011-12 roster and nine are former Longhorns. There are four gold medalists competing at trials for UT. Brendan Hansen won gold medals in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games. Garrett Weber-Gale won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics while Ricky Berens and Dave Walters each came home with one.
Texas is well represented in he trials. There will be 34 current and former University of Texas Men’s Swimmers heading to the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. June 25-July 2.
Here is the list of current and former Longhorns at the trials.
