Quinn Ewers and Jaylan Ford: What They Said at Thursday’s Media Availability
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The new football season is approaching, and it seems that both starting QB Quinn Ewers and starting LB Jaylan Ford are ready and eager to get started. Today’s media availability started with Ewers, and he was asked several questions regarding his weight, diet and stature now: “I laid off the Chick-Fil-A, I’m a big Chick-Fil-A fan”. He continued on by stating that he does allow himself a cheat day every now and then due to him being more “comfortable” with his weight now compared to earlier in the year and that he weighs around 200 pounds now. In person, Ewers looks season-ready. When asked about the upcoming season, Ewers stated that he “feel(s) like we [Texas] are really bought in this year… this off-season… it didn’t really feel like it was an off-season… we attacked it with the right mindset”. Ewers went on to highlight the defense, RB Jonathan Brooks and others, but what caught my ear was the quote “I’ve learned to try and not be as perfect… just give them [the receivers] a chance”.

In his second year with Texas, let’s see if he can capitalize on that thought.

Switching over to Jaylan Ford, he mentioned that he studies 49ers linebacker Fred Warner’s game and Saints linebacker Demario Davis’ as well. Talking about his motivation, Ford tells himself every morning when he wakes up that he is the “best linebacker in the country”. Ford went on to talk very highly of Arkansas transfer and safety Jalen Catalon along with QB Maalik Murphy as well. Jaylan, when mentioning why he came back to Texas for another year instead of going to the NFL, stated “I was just getting started and unleashing my potential.” The quote that gets Texas fans going would be Ford being aware of “the talent and potential that we [Texas] have on this team…” but then turning that potential into something bigger than that as well. Soon, the college football world will see if the Longhorns are able to do just that.
