Outlook:
Myles Turner is most heralded recruit at Texas since since Kevin Durant – those are huge shoes to fill, figuratively and literally. I don’t expect Turner to dominate early against teams like UConn or Kentucky but he should be dominant by mid to late December.
The bigger question: Is Myles Turner a “one-and-done”? I don’t foresee any scenario where he plays for 4 years at Texas. The longest it’s safe to project him playing on the 40 Acres is two years.
Blake Griffin stayed in college for two years; Allen Iverson, and Wilt Chamberlin did as well. We have seen “one and done” players fizzle out in the NBA and very few have made it to superstar status. Until he competes against college-aged players, I can’t say which route is better than the other for Turner.
For this season, I expect Turner to play for about 33 minutes/game and average 15-17 points/game.
