For Longhorn fans hoping for to take away a positive from the Sooners harder than expected win over TCU on Saturday night, OU’s final score will give a little heartburn. RB Brennan Clay struck from 76 yards out late in the fourth quarter to put OU too far ahead of the Horned Frogs in a 20-17 win. Not to be forgotten, Trey Millard, the guy who hurdled a Longhorns defender last year en route to a 73 yard gain also scored.
The Sooners rushed for 203 yards en route to the victory, and throttled TCU’s already anemic offense, holding it to just 210 yards, 44 of which came on the ground. Â How good were the Sooners on defense a week after riding an early turnover touchdown to a win at Notre Dame? TCU didn’t get a first down until almost half way into the third quarter, and did not cross midfield in the first half.
Horned Frogs QB Trevone Boykin is much like McCoy in his limited skill set but ability to occasionally pull out a stunner. He wasn’t great against OU, but did make the plays late in the game to keep TCU in it. Blake Bell had an off game in my opinion, going 20/31, but against Texas he wont be asked to throw the ball 31 times. There are weak points on this Sooners squad, but their strengths play perfectly to the Longhorns weaknesses. Don’t forget OU’s opening day starter Trevor Knight is healthy and available.
We will have much more as we head toward game week.
