The Texas Longhorns’ 17-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night as they fell to the UTSA Roadrunners 8-7 in a thrilling 12-inning contest at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
UTSA’s Andrew Stucky, who had been hitless in his previous four at-bats, delivered the game to the Roadrunners with a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning off Texas reliever Ruger Riojas. The Longhorns were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, going down in order to seal their fate.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Texas initially taking a 6-2 lead by the end of the fifth inning. However, the Roadrunners clawed their way back, tying the game at 7-7 in the ninth inning. Both teams had multiple opportunities to score in extra innings, but it was Stucky’s homer that ultimately made the difference.
Texas had runners on base in the ninth, 10th, and 11th innings but couldn’t capitalize. UTSA’s Robert Orloski pitched effectively in relief, escaping several jams to keep the Roadrunners in the game.
The loss drops Texas to 17-2 on the season, while UTSA improves to 17-6. The Longhorns will look to bounce back this weekend as they face No. 2 LSU in a highly anticipated SEC showdown in Austin.
