The Texas Longhorns traveled north on I-35 to face #15 Baylor in a nationally televised Big Monday game in Waco. The Longhorns were able to fend off the Bears, notching their 4th win over an AP Top-20 opponent with a 67-59 win.
*Player of the game
Connor Lammert
A consistent theme of the new, improved Longhorns is that a number of players are stepping up to be stars on any given night. Connor Lammert did that against Baylor. When the Longhorns needed a big play, Lammert was right there to make it. To say Lammert had just a big game last night would not do him justice. The senior had a monumental game.
*Key point of the game
When Rico Gathers shouldered Prince Ibeh to the ground, tempers flared and words were shared. The Bears eventually tied the game up and the crowd got into the game. The Longhorns didn’t panic and went on to retake the lead and really never looked back.
*Epilogue
Texas is on a hot streak. It’s exciting to watch this team play with enthusiasm and energy. They don’t quit and always seem to be in the right spot at the right time. A few months ago, I didn’t believe this was a tournament team. Now, I think they can make a run at being a top-4 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Longhorns are starting to receive votes in the polls and the win in Waco will only increase their profile.
Texas plays Texas Tech in Austin on Saturday before heading to Norman for another Big Monday matchup against the top ranked Sooners.
Do you want to doubt this team in Norman? I wouldn’t.
