Another trip to Atlanta for the Texas Longhorns…. Another trip without beloved mascot Bevo.

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Clemson Tigers 38-24 at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in the First Round of the College Football Playoff, punching their ticket to the quarterfinals against Arizona State. The matchup against the Sun Devils will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Longhorns played the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game just weeks ago.

In the 22-19 loss to Kirby Smart’s team the Longhorns were without team mascot, Bevo, who was not allowed in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and did not travel. The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, host of the upcoming quarterfinals, announced a similar position regarding the 1700+ lb. steer on Monday citing “constraints” and “safety” as reasons for the decision.

“We love all of the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best, but the unfortunate reality is there is simply not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.”

“With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we unfortunately will not be able to have Bevo ont he field at the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.”

Texas and Arizona State will kickoff at noon on New Year’s Day with the game being televised on ESPN.
