Texas Football head coach Steve Sarkisian has been named a finalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive year that Sarkisian has been selected as a finalist for this prestigious award.
Under Sarkisian, the Longhorns have achieved a 12-2 record, secured an appearance in the SEC Championship Game, and won their first-round matchup in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. Texas has now recorded back-to-back seasons with 12 or more wins for the first time since 2008-09, marking the program’s fifth season with 12-plus wins (2005, 2008, 2009, 2023, 2024). The Longhorns boast an impressive 11-game winning streak in true road games, the longest active streak in the FBS. Since the start of the 2023 season, Texas has a 24-4 record, with all four losses coming against AP top-12 opponents. Over their last 30 games, the Longhorns are 25-5, with all five losses also against AP top-12 teams.
Sarkisian has guided Texas’ offense to impressive rankings, including No. 6 in the FBS for first down offense (317), 14th in completion percentage (66.5%), 15th in total offense (448.9 ypg), 15th in team passing efficiency (154.52), 17th in passing offense (275.4 ypg), and 24th in scoring offense (33.9 ppg). The Longhorns have rushed for over 100 yards in 12 of their 14 games, with three different running backs each recording at least one 100-yard game. Through 14 games, Texas’ offense is averaging 6.3 yards per play, 173.5 rushing yards per game, and 4.6 yards per carry, with 25 rushing touchdowns and 35 passing touchdowns.
Sarkisian is one of eight finalists for the George Munger Award. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
The formal presentation of the George Munger Coach of the Year Award will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
