University of Houston wide receiver Matthew Golden announced via Twitter on December 12th that he was in the transfer portal. Four days later he announced his commitment to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.
Golden, a Klein Cain High School product and 4-star recruit, held a a scholarship offer from the Longhorns but ultimately opted to stay close to home and play for the Houston Cougars. In his two years under Dana Holgorsen he caught 72 passes for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns. Steve Sarkisian got a first-hand look at the 6-0, 190 lb. play-maker’s abilities this year at TDECU Stadium when he caught two touchdown passes in the Cougars’ near upset of the Longhorns. Golden also impressed in the return game this year amassing 321 yards and scoring two touchdowns, one of which was 100 yards.
Golden has two years of eligibility left, but his presence next year will be critical with the Longhorns possibly losing up to three starters to graduation and the NFL Draft (Jordan Whittington, AD Mitchell, Xavier Worthy).
