Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns will begin their inaugural season as members of the Southeastern Conference ranked fourth in the US LBM Coaches Poll, announced on Monday. The Longhorns played their final season in the Big 12 Conference last year, winning a conference championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. Texas finished Sarkisian’s third season at the helm in Austin with a 12-2 record and saw eleven players selected in this year’s NFL Draft.
Three of the Top-5 teams ranked in the poll are SEC programs, including No. 1 Georgia and No. 5. Alabama. Defending national champion Michigan sits at No. 8 and will welcome Texas to Ann Arbor on September 7th. Despite being ranked fourth, the Longhorns received on first place vote.
Texas kicks off their season on August 31 as they host Colorado State in Austin.
