FORT WORTH, Texas – It was a sloppy game for both teams, but the Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M on the hardwood ended with a 60-50 victory in favor of the Longhorns. Junior guard Jase Febres led Texas in scoring with a season-high 17 points, and redshirt sophmore Andrew Jones added 12 points and 5 assists in the winning effort. With Sunday’s win, the Longhorns hold an 8-1 record – the best start for Shaka Smart as head coach at Texas.
At halftime the score was 27-17 in favor of the Longhorns, but the Aggies managed to get within six points late in the game. Texas never relinquished the lead.
The Aggies didn’t have a scorer in double digits, but freshman forward Emanuel Miller grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and scored eight points.
Texas A&M shot 47% from the field and committed 21 turnovers. The Longhorns shot 41.8%, including 31% from beyond the arc, and hit 83.3% of free throws.
The win at Dickies Arena marks the sixth time in seven games the Longhorns have defeated former Southwest Conference and Big 12 rival Texas A&M.
Texas will host Central Michigan next on Saturday, December 14th.
