An already tough year on the injury front got worse Saturday night, as multiple outlets, first being “Inside Texas” are reporting Texas Jr LB Jordan Hicks has suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the rest of the season.
Hicks, from Lakota West HS (OH) was granted a medical redshirt after suffering a hip flexor injury last season against Ole Miss which cost him the year, and could potentially qualify for another one this year as he’s played in less than 30% of the team’s games. Â Hicks is a solid play maker, but has been unable to stay healthy.
Hicks was this season’s leading tackler, as he was at the time of his season ending injury last year. Without Hicks, the linebacker corps must get someone to emerge like Peter Jinkens or Tevin Jackson to help shore up a defense that ranks 108th out of 123 FBS teams..
Starting MLB Steve Edmond will also be out for the first half of the Iowa State game after being ejected for targeting. Texas is experiencing the injury rash as WR Mike Davis, WR Daje Johnson & TE Greg Daniels among others have recently missed playing time. Â The Longhorns’ only game between the Red River Rivalry and now is the Iowa State game, a week from Thursday, so perhaps some injuries will have time to heal.
