The Southeastern Conference released additional kickoff details Wednesday for Texas Football’s early-season slate, including home matchups against Texas State and UTSA at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.
Texas will open the 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, against Texas State, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. The game is presented by UFCU. Two weeks later, the Longhorns return home to host UTSA on Saturday, Sept. 19, in a 7 p.m. CT kickoff on SEC Network+, presented by Ford.
Previously announced game times include a marquee home matchup against Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 12, scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ABC. Texas will also close the regular season in College Station against Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 27, at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown.
The Texas State matchup marks just the second all-time meeting between the programs. Their only previous meeting came in 1930, when the Bobcats were known as Southwest Texas State Teachers College, with Texas earning a 36-0 win in Austin. The Longhorns hold a 2-0 edge all-time against UTSA, including a 41-20 victory in 2022 and a 56-7 win in 2024, both in Austin.
Texas enters year six under head coach Steve Sarkisian with sustained momentum. The Longhorns have gone 35-8 over the past three seasons, recording three consecutive 10-win campaigns for the first time since 2007–09. During that stretch, Texas claimed a Big 12 Championship in 2023, reached the College Football Playoff semifinals in back-to-back seasons (2023, 2024), appeared in the 2024 SEC Championship Game, and capped last season with a Cheez-It Citrus Bowl victory.
Kickoff times and broadcast details for the remainder of the 2026 schedule will be announced at a later date.
