Texas point guard, Myck Kabongo has declared for the NBA draft held on June 27th.
“It’s been a great ride,” said Kabongo, who is projected to go mid-late first round.
The sophomore played one and half seasons in Austin, and was named 2013 team MVP by the players last week at the annual awards banquet.
Kabongo was held out of the first 23 games of the 2012-13 season due to a relationship with an agent in the offseason.
Asked if he could change anything, Kabongo said, “I wouldn’t have taken a trip to Cleveland.”

He comes from Findlay Prep (Nevada) via Canada. The pipeline that gave Texas Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph, and Kabongo produced one NCAA win. One.
Kabongo averaged 14.6 points per game, 5.5 assists, and 2.o steals in ’12-13. He finishes his Longhorns’ career with 10.8 ppg and 5.3 dimes pg. He was named All-Big 12 honorable mention as a freshman.
The trip to Cleveland is how Kabongo will be remembered at Texas unfortunately. A promising guard, who clearly needed four years of development. But it’s a sign of the times. And it won’t change anytime soon.
Texas finished 16-18 last season.
