Jackson Jeffcoat, who led the Big 12 with 12 sacks and his 75 tackles, the most by a Texas defensive end in 19 years, has been selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Â Jeffcoat received 11 of the 20 votes for the honor, beating out Texas Christian Defensive Back Jason Verrett and Oklahoma State Cornerback Justin Gilbert.
Jeffcoat, son of former Dallas Cowboys DEÂ Â Jim Jeffcoat, attended Plano West High School, where he was a two-time first-team all-state defensive end. Over his final three seasons, he recorded 259 tackles, 25.5 sacks, 56 TFL, 42 pressures, four PBU, three forced fumbles, two INTs, two blocked kicks and a TD. He was named a High School All-American by USA Today, Parade, and EA Sports. He was selected to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Jeffcoat will play his final game as a Longhorn in the Valero Alamo Bowl against the Oregon Ducks.
