[*]After a three & out from the defense, the offense marches straight down the field. Swoopes to Harris for 6, but it was setup with solid playcalling. Nice job by Watson to give Swoopes a couple of simple throws out of the gate to help him settle in to a rhythm.

[*]Special teams rears it’s head on the PAT and then poor kick return defense. The defense & offense start as well as anyone could ask, but the “other†unit…..(sigh).

[*]Next drives for Oklahoma State and for Texas result in the same thing as the first 2 drives of the game…a 3 & out for OSU, and the Texas offense picking up yards at will. This game is being dominated by the Texas offensive and defensive lines in the 1st quarter.

[*]Naashon Hughes dominated his matchups early in the game. It won’t show up on the stat sheet, but it will in the film room.

[*]Nick Rose makes the field goal from 51 yards. After 2 negative runs and a false start, that FG had momentum-changer (for OSU) written all over it. Huge make by Rose.

[*]Kevin Peterson (OkStU CB) is trying to tackle way too high. Watching him flounder makes it easy to appreciate how good the fundamental tackling is by Texas.

Second half observations‘”
- n”.self::process_list_items(“‘.str_replace(‘

[*]A penalty negates a nice kick return to open the half and a negative run puts the Texas offense behind the chains on 2nd and 3rd down. Sloppy start to the 3rd quarter, but the defense comes out firing and forces another 3 & out.

- n”.self::process_list_items(“‘.str_replace(‘

[*]On the 2nd possession of the half, the offense made an obvious effort to get the ball to Daje Johnson, but Swoopes’ pass was deflected. I say “obvious†because there were 2 receivers more open than Daje and Swoopes passed on both of them.

[*]Great playcall on 3rd & 8 from the Texas 41 – the flag route to Foreman was an excellent job of the booth knowing where the hole in the zone coverage would be. Result is an easy throw & catch that keeps the chains moving, and ultimately a field goal.

[*]Again Tyreek Hill dazzles on a kick return…but runs farther horizontally than vertically. That’s an easy fix for the freshman.

[*]The screen game has been great for the offense tonight – it’s been keeping drives alive, and it represents easy completions for Swoopes (keeping his confidence high).

[*]That Armanti Foreman post route in the 4th quarter. Whoa!

Three takeaways
1. Game balls to the offensive and defensive lines. Smothering job done on both sides.
2. The offense and defense got the job done tonight. The Special Teams unit needs to join the trend if this team is going to beat TCU.
3. The urgency and execution by Texas in the 4th quarter says a lot about how far this team has come. This game should have been over at halftime, but it wasn’t. When they really needed extra cushion late in the game, the team didn’t panic – they executed.
Notable Stat’s‘”
- n”.self::process_list_items(“‘.str_replace(‘

[*]17 first downs, 7/10 on 3rd downs, and 21:16 TOP in the 1st half for Texas. I don’t think Shawn Watson even dreams those kinds of stats during REM sleep.
