Already thin at defensive back with safety Brandon Jones injuring his ankle on Saturday morning, the Longhorns lost cornerback Davante Davis on the opening drive of the West Virginia game. Davis went down with what Tom Herman categorized as a neck and shoulder sprain. He was replaced by freshman Anthony Cook, who had 6 tackles against the Mountaineers. Davis missed the Tulsa game after a neck injury sustained in the Maryland game and sat out the first quarter of the Oklahoma State game for showing up late to team meetings.
After spraining his sternoclavicular joint in the Oklahoma State game, linebacker Breckyn Hager left the West Virginia game on the Mountaineers’ second drive of the game. Hager walked off the field favoring his right arm and went to the locker room for evaluation. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game with what was later disclosed as a dislocated elbow.
Sophomore linebacker Marqez Bimage left the game in the second half with a disclocated shoulder and did not return.
West Virginia’s offense amassed 578 yards of total offense against the Longhorns, with Mountaineer quarterback Will Grier passing for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Mountaineers currently sit atop the Big 12 standings along with Oklahoma, who defeated Texas Tech on Saturday 51-46 in Lubbock.
Texas will face Texas Tech next Saturday, November 10th, in Lubbock.
