When the Texas Longhorns take the field on Saturday the traditional Longhorn helmet decal will bear the initials “DKR” in honor of Texas’ winningest football coach , Darrell K. Royal, who passed away earlier this week. Also in Royal’s honor the offense will lineup in the wishbone formation, which Royal pioneered and used on his teams in the late 1960’s. Coach Royal spent 20 seasons at Texas and won 3 national championships and 11 Southwest conference championships.
Texas hosts Iowa State at 11:00 am on Saturday at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. The game can be seen exclusively on the Longhorn Network.
