http://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/tex_ucla.jpgTexas came out of the gate swinging and never let up.  The 23rd ranked Longhorns displayed a nice variety of offensive schemes and used a multitude of players in doing so.  Case McCoy got his first start at quarterback for the Longhorns and had an impressive day finishing with 168 yards passing and two touchdowns.  Malcolm Brown had an equally impressive day and went over the 100 yard mark in a game for his first time as a Longhorn.  Brown rushed 22 times for an average of 5 yards per carry.   Fozzy Whitaker wowed as well, displaying lightning quick speeds on 8 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns.  Throw in a trick play in which Jaxson Shipley hit D.J. Grant for Grant’s third touchdown of the game and it was easily one of the most complete games Texas has played in quite some time.

The defense gave up only 141 yards rushing, compared to 264 in last year’s game and intercepted the ball three times from UCLA qb’s.  Manny Diaz is all smiles with the way his guys played today, applying pressure and blitzes at every opportunity.

Today was a great win for this young Texas team which has a bye week next weekend and travels to Ames, Iowa to take on a good Iowa State team on October 1st.
