It appears the Longhorns (2-2) are experiencing a little jet-lag in Maui after losing their second consecutive game in as many days at the EA Sports Invitational in Hawaii. After a devastating loss to Division II’s Chaminade Silverswords on Monday, the Longhorns fought back from a 7 point deficit to the USC Trojans (3-1) to force an overtime period that Texas never held a lead in. It was another poor shooting performance by Texas, which shot just 37% from the floor and committed 15 turnovers, never allowing the Longhorns any opportunity to open up any sort of lead. The lead changed hands many times duing the course of regulation play but USC ‘s J.T. Terrell grabbed 2 rebounds and made 4 free throws in the final 18 seconds of overtime to seal the victory for the Trojans. Julien Lewis led the Longhorns in scoring with 17 points and Eric Wise led the scoring effort for USC with 13 points.
Texas still awaits the NCAA’s ruling on sophmore point guard Myck Kabongo’s eligibility. True freshman Jevan Felix got the start again in Kabongo’s absence and had 6 points, 8 assists and 2 turnovers.
The loss to USC sends the Longhorns into the 7th place game in which they will face Mississippi State (1-3) tomorrow at 1:30 pm CST on ESPNU.
