Since losing back-to-back games against Oklahoma State and West Virginia, the Texas Longhorns have won two straight and find themselves in position to play for the Big 12 Championship. A win over the Kansas Jayhawks today would solidify Texas’ spot next week against the winner of the Oklahoma vs. West Virginia game, which takes place on Saturday evening. The Longhorns aren’t looking past Kansas, who upset the Longhorns in their last trip to Lawrence 24-21 (11/9/2016). Kansas has lost three straight and seven of their last eight games, but showed well offensively against Oklahoma last week.
Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is likely to start against Kansas despite a shoulder injury sustained in the Iowa State game last Saturday. Ehlinger has thrown this week and fully participated in the team’s final practice before heading to Lawrence on Thursday. The Longhorns are also dealing with injuries to several players, including running back Tre Watson, defensive back Kris Boyd and defensive tackle Chris Nelson.
A win over the Jayhawks would mark the first 9 win season for Texas since 2009, which was the last time the Longhorns played for the Big 12 crown.
