Breaking news out of Austin tonight, where John Bonney, a 6-1 183 lb. safety out of Houston Lamar High School has committed to the Longhorns. Â Bonney is a 4 star recruit with 32 reported scholarship offers from schools including UCLA, TCU, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU, Florida State and Auburn – just to name a few. Â Bonney and his family took their time in making a decision and checked out many of the schools which offered him, but when it came time to pull the trigger he chose the Longhorns – his favorite team since his youngest days of growing up in Houston.
Bonney excels in one on one coverage, and with continued growth will turn more of his pass break ups into interceptions. He has excellent size, decent speed, and can hit when the opportunity presents itself. Â He’s certainly versatile enough to play corner, safety or nickelback. Â Bonney is ranked 31st on the Lone Star Recruiting Top 100 for 2014 and becomes commit #24 in the 2014 Texas recruiting class, joining Jason Hall (Grand Prairie) and Jermaine Roberts (New Orleans, LA) as defensive back recruits.
