Major Tennison......

As strange as it may end up being, I wouldn't close the book just yet on Tennison and Texas.

Alabama taking Kedrick James threw a wrench in this recruitment.

Texas doesn't use the TE much, but they also don't have a TE with his talents on the roster. If he does sign with Texas, I believe they will find a way to use him.

RD, go back and read just the adjectives you used in "the rant". That's incredibly melodramatic when you consider it's an unsubstantiated rumor. In addition, for the first time since Colt McCoy, it appears we have a young man with college-level qb skills on campus.

C'mon. Get real.

Hook 'em!

To me, it seems he doesn't want to play for Texas and is only mentioning UT because he lost out on his chance to play for Alabama. I'm still hoping he doesn't end up at UT, but I'm not the one getting paid to make those decisions. Just my opinion.

Don't let your emotions get in the way of getting a good football player, we were also Hudson's Devin's & JP's second choice
But when JP and Devin signed their LOIs with Texas, they chose Texas over all other options. Baylor didn't reject them, they rejected Baylor. They also purposefully rejected all other programs in favor of Texas.

With Tennison, is seems he truly wants to sign with Alabama but lost out on his opportunity when Kendrick James committed. Hence, with Tennison, character issues aside, it looks like he is a kid not committed to play for Texas and just settling, probably temporarily, for Texas.

Playing for Charlie Strong requires at least a small level of commitment as the 6 am study halls and the certain suspension for character issues are something a player chooses to abide by and aren't conditions for eligibility in many other programs, including other programs in Texas. I am wondering about the ability of a player not fully committed to Coach Strong's program will succeed in the program.

Yes, I understand we are talking about 17 and 18 year old kids who are sorting out their options, but 17 and 18 year kids of a certain level of maturity and development unquestionably have the ability to commit to a direction in life and prepare themselves mentally to head in that direction. Tennison doesn't strike me as someone who is at that point in his maturity and development. Therefore, I question whether he will be able to grow over time as an individual to truly be able to live the lifestyle Charlie Strong requires of his players.

Tennison may be a tremendously talented athlete. I'm just wondering if he is the type of kid who can grow enough over the next few months and years to be a good fit for Charlie Strong's program, especially when he seems to be turning to Texas after having been rejected by Alabama and not out a well considered direction he wants to take his life or his athletic development. My instinct tells me that when in doubt, the answer is usually "no."

With JP and Devin, I am confident they understand what is going to be asked of them and that they are committed to delivering on their commitments without regrets for not be able to play for another program. I'm trying to think of another player who was rejected by their preferred school after committing there, who then committed to play for Charlie and who has flourished under Charlie. If anyone can think of one, speak up.

I'm sure folks had similar concerns about Jordan Elliott after all of his shenanigans during the cycle. That includes me. He is pushing for playing time right now and has only been on campus since June.

The kid made a tough (and unpopular) decision, but he made it. I think if Texas was really concerned about his mental makeup that they would have let him walk and moved on regardless of what other schools opted to do.

Tennison's quote was:

"I still have hope about going to Texas, but I'm also blessed with great options if I don't."

I read that as his expressing hope of trying round two with Coach Strong, but unsure of whether it will happen.

This one will be interesting. And by interesting, I mean will be interesting to see how Coach Strong decides to handle things.

If anything, this reminds me of Raulerson's decision to move on. He was dead set on a number of schools because of their football program and their graduate academics and he landed at freaking Arkansas.

A few things ro keep in mind.

1) Texas has some definite talent, but need to prove that they have turned the corner this year by putting up some Ws. Tennison isn't the only recruit that is waiting for UT to show them what they have on the field.

2) New offense that isn't particularly TE friendly. If I'm an elite TE, I'm waiting to see how Im going to be utilized.

3) If he wanted Alabama and only them that bad, he could gave commited shortly after decommiting from Texas. He didn't.

While he may not necessarily be handling it in an ideal manner, I really don't blame the kid for taking his time and making sure that he finds the right fit.

let's just be honest.

Major Tennison isn't committed in the least to playing for Charlie Strong.

He may sign up to play for Charlie Strong, but he would rather be at another school. He isn't committed in the least to playing for Charlie Strong.

My guess is he signs an LOI for Arky or U of H.

I won't go that hard on the kid. Who wouldn't want to play for Saban, especially if you keep hearing Texas' new offense won't feature a TE so much?

I want his heart in the right place, but I give the kid time for that to happen. I didn't know I wanted to marry my wife until well after we had started a friendship/relationship. Time has a way of changing your perspective. That may very well happen with him. It is clear though that Texas is still in his head since he's still talking about us.

I'd give it time and see how it plays out. If Texas is not for him, best wishes to him wherever he goes. If he comes, I just want him to be sure. No reason why that can't happen.

But when you committed to marrying your wife, it wasn't because you were rejected by your true love and only begrudgingly decided to marry your wife because you had to pick someone by February 5th.

I'm just not a big Tennison fan. I remember back to my college days and realize that if someone isn't committed to a lifestyle that requires him to be in study hall a 6 am, he isn't going to be there.

Tennison wants to be at Alabama. I'd rather see Coach Strong recruit someone who wants to be at Texas.

Never commit to someone who is in love with someone else. Tennison doesn't seem to be in love with Texas. His heart is in Alabama. Let some other coach deal with that heartache.

1. Correct. But you assume I knew what true love was, as did I then. But I didn't. I had to learn.

2. Don't think this is a question of lifestyle. Bama is much like Texas.

3. If this sentence were true, he'd be on their commit list already. He had that chance. Someone above already pointed this out once.

4. That's your opinion, but facts don't support it. If his heart were in Bama, he'd be on their commit list and wouldn't be talking about Texas. If you're in love with Bama, you don't go around talking about how sexy Texas is. My wife would not tolerate. :)

He's a kid. They change their minds sometimes as often as they change underwear. Nobody has a gun to his head telling him to make a call right now.

Relax, this will work out one way or the other.

Bama ain't much like Texas.

You aren't going to convince me Saban runs his program just like Charlie Strong.

Tennison isn't on Alabama's commit list because Nick Saban rejected him. And Tennison has never talked positively about UT. Texas was never anything more than a placeholder for Tennison.

When it comes to Tennison, as we say in Texas, El Paso.
