Quick Notes

Playoff venues for DFW area schools will be tougher to come by this year than most years. Allen's grand stadium complex has been shut down for repair/renovation after some structural integrity issues were discovered late last year.

The area's second largest stadium, Mesquite Memorial, is also shut down this year for repairs/renovations.

So the pickings could be slim and some games will and in less than ideal venues this season.

Thanks, Mark.

If Manvel is focused, I don't think Pearland can hang for 4 quarters. But with teenagers, you never know...

SHA, a little footnote for you. YOUR Taylor Ducks could find themsleves in the playoffs with a win tomorrow despite starting the season 0-8. A win would make them 2-3 in district and if things fall right would get them the 4th spot in our 6 team district.

SHA once again left out my Longview Lobos, who'll be taking on the football powerhouse (not really, OK, not at all) that is Hallsville this Friday night. SHA is just a Lobo hater I guess.

Also, Longview vs. Lufkin in the 1st round of the playoffs at Rose Stadium in Tyler on 11/14.

A shame. No team with 8 losses should go to the playoffs.

BTW, I own Ireland. It's my island. So you can keep your TaylorDucks.

Do you need a training bra? lol I'm told weekly I pimp Longview too much! ha ha

Do not discount Hallsville. If the Lobos walk in thinking it's a done deal, Hallsville could make it interesting. John King doesn't let that happen very often though.

Lufkin will be tough, but Longview might take them this time.

Meh, I'm not worried about Hallsville too much. I think we win that one by 3 scores.

Lufkin concerns me. Hopefully the Lobos are still pissed about getting pounded 44-14 in week 1.

I bet you Katy plays further into the playoffs than at least 8 of the teams in the 6A top ten.

This week marks Week 1 in the Washington State High School Football Playoffs.

Here is a rundown from the local paper up here on Camas' possible road to the Tacoma Dome, where e state semis and finals are held.

Class 4A

CAMAS: The Papermakers (9-0) are set up for three home playoff games, starting Friday night against Tahoma of Covington (6-3). If Camas wins, it would host either Bellarmine Prep or Kentwood next week, then comes the possible matchup with No. 1 Bothell, again at Doc Harris Stadium

I'll see if I can find a Tahoma write up to post here as well.

No. 1 Bothell . . . as in "will give Camas a game?"

Next week I'll do a rundown on Longhorn verbals who are in the playoffs.

A tidbit from Matt Wixon at the DMN (HS beat)

DISTRICT 8-6A

All of the teams have been decided, but one division has yet to be finalized. Division I — top seed: DeSoto, runner-up: South Grand Prairie. In Division II, Cedar Hill can clinch the top seed with a win OR Mansfield loss. Mansfield can clinch the top seed only with a win AND Cedar Hill loss.

From tonight's games:

DeSoto 69

Duncanville 20

Final

Dallas Skyline 55

Dallas Sunset 0

Final

Tyler Lee 75

Garland Naaman Forest 27

Final

Rockwall Heath 35 (Longhorn verbal Deshon Elliot)

South Garland 17

Final

Dallas South Oak Cliff 56 (Longhorn verbals Jordan Stevenson and Jamile Johnson)

Dallas Adamson 0

Final

Stevenson had 69 yards on 7 carries for a 9.57 ypc average and 3 touchdowns. Touchdown runs of 4, 3, and 35 yards. Only 7 carries sounds like the HC didn't want to risk him right before the playoffs.

Fort Bend Ridge Point 48 (Longhorn verbal Cameron Townsend)

Texas City 7

Final

Spring 41

Klein Oak 16

Final

Richmond George Ranch 40

Port Lavaca Calhoun 28

Final

Katy Seven Lakes 44

Katy Morton Ranch 14

Final

Pasadena Dobie 37

Pasadena Memorial 20

Final

Spring Dekaney 42

Montgomery 7

Final

Maybe but lots of those are going into two different divisions. For instance, Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity are in the same district. Trinity goes to Div 1 playoffs while SLC goes Div II. I think Manvel and Pearland are in a similar situation. That's four of the 10 right there just out of two districts.

So 2 teams from the same HS district will be split to different playoff divisions? Why does that make sense, or maybe it just doesn't? How are the decisions made regarding which playoff divisions a team goes to? Does it change year to year or does it remain the same each season? I guess it would make sense if the Red Sox were moved to the NL wildcard spot for the playoffs and the Yankees stayed in the AL for the playoffs. Any insight?

The divisions are made based on student enrollment. Which ever school has the larger enrollment goes in the division 1 (large school) bracket. Smaller enrollments go to division 2.

Anybody know the UIL's reasoning behind dividing  4A and lower divisions but not the larger schools? Boerne is in 14-4A-DI and there's also a 14-4A-DII. If they're going to split them come playoff time, why not do it in the season in 6A? I assume there's a reason.
