Notre Dame is coming to town!

He is simply protecting his NFL eligible players from losing stock if they get  soundly beaten and humiliated by an Irish team that is definitely playoff-bound, which is a real possibility?

I don't know what to say. You really think scouts are going to not see the game? National TV, only game on a Sunday, widely available in their own living rooms or any bar on any corner?

What exactly could Strong hope to protect?

Under your logic, what a missed opportunity for scouts to see Texas players shine in a upset by Texas, killing ND's season right out of the blocks.

Spin spins all kinds of ways. But ultimately its worst enemy is common sense.

It is a perplexing call by Texas.

As you are undoubtedly know, NFL scouts are not there to simply watch the game as the casual viewer does at any bar at any corner.  They are studying the processes during gametime, the coaches, reactions to game tendencies by players and coaching staff.  They want to see a system that develops players.  They want to see the most stressful gametime experiences possible for future NFL prospects in real time, and how the whole organism reacts to this environment.

Giving NFL scouts a kitchen pass to see UT play some conference game sometime later this season is not the same thing.

NFL scouts are in Texas for the Alabama/USC game (which will have more pure talent on that field than perhaps any other game this season, hands down).  They want to make the quick trip from Arlington to Austin.

I'm not talking smack.  I am surprised as hell that Texas made this call.

You are not?

Exactly.  Why not allow access?

A heavy NFL scouting presence at a marquee matchup is also a recruiting advantage for high school prospects, as the kids notice little things like scouts from the Dallas Cowboys or Redskins walking around with them at a school that they may consider to help them get to their dream...

Just my opinion.  Fair enough...

No. I think you've locked yourself into your own little conspiracy theory.

If the scouts want to scout the game, they will. And I'm quite certain they will. I was more shocked to hear your lame explanation. You act like the stars, moon, whatever have to be aligned with Charlie's gift of a seat in the press box. . . . what do you even say?

BTW, why would they be interested in the "organism?" Are they scouting specific people or the whole athletic department?

You convinced me, hornsalot.

As long as Mcconaughey is on the sidelines with his pass, I'm satisfied.

It's just another home game!  Those seats are better suited for fans, anyway.

First I have heard no information from UT about why access is not allowed.  Even so, I would not say "It is a perplexing call by Texas."

Notre Dame has much more to gain by having NFL scouts come to watch this game than Texas.

1) ND has a team of upperclassmen hoping to impress the NFL so they can get drafted in next year's draft.  Texas has a team primarily made up of underclassmen who have at least 2 more years to impress the NFL scouts.

2) If you believe rankings and bookies, ND should dominate this game, showcasing the ND upperclassmen over the younger players from UT, again impressing the NFL scouts.

3) By impressing those scouts, ND hopes to get multiple players drafted, many more than UT will have drafted in this year's NFL draft.

4) ND will hope to use the disparity in this year's NFL draft to come down to Texas and impress selected Texas high school recruits by saying, "Look here.  ND got twice as many players drafted as UT did.  If you want to play in the NFL, you have to come to ND.  Case closed."  At the same time pumping up ND status as the "big time program" and negative recruiting UT as not able to impress the NFL scouts.

5) UT will have to host the scouts.  I have no idea how much effort the coaches would feel they need to put into hosting and providing information to the scouts, but UT is currently trying to get a very young team with a brand new offense prepared for a top 10 team, with very little reward for their time.

6) Therefore, ND seems to have much more to gain in the NFL draft and in recruiting next year.

7) And you, sir are being disingenuous by claiming that it is a "perplexing call by Texas" and you can't imagine why they would do it.

Texas restricts NFL scouts from coming to their biggest game of the season?

You have to be kidding me... but I understand Strong for the move.  He is simply protecting his NFL eligible players from losing stock if they get  soundly beaten and humiliated by an Irish team that is definitely playoff-bound, which is a real possibility?

Or perhaps there are no viable draft prospects on this year's UT team?  Jefferson is too young to declare.  The article mentioned Swoopes as eligible this year.

Strange decision by Texas...

I do believe your ND arrogance is showing.  Charlie Strong doesn't seem like the type to worry about being beaten and humiliated. Now if I hear reports that Coach Strong is calling ABC to not televise the game then I'll think your on to something.

IOr perhaps there are no viable draft prospects on this year's UT team?

This would be my guess. I know UT fans can be arrogant when were winning and that's why I really want to beat Notre Dame and knock them down and peg. It would be nice if the ND players and coaches thinks that Coach Strong is worried about being beaten and humiliated then they will come into the game overconfident.

This is completely wrong.

ND is NOT a team of upperclassman.

Out of 49 positions of the two-deep chart for offense, defense & ST's ND has 5 seniors!

That is 5 total seniors in the two-deep of 49.

Only two are expected to be drafted next year (Jones & Rochell).

ND is very young like Texas. The difference is ND was forced to play freshmen last year censuses of injuries, not lack of talent.

Those freshmen were part of a 10 win season.

Here is ND's two deep on offense: (1 Senior)

QB: DeShone Kizer Soph

2. Malik Zaire Jr

RB: Josh Adams Soph

2. Tarean Folston Jr / Dexter Williams Soph

WR(X): Torii Hunter Sr

2. Kevin Stepherson Fr

WR(W): Equanimeous St. Brown Soph

2. Javon Mckinley Fr

WR(Z): CJ Sanders Soph

2. Corey Holmes Fr

TE: Aliz'e Jones Soph

2. Durham Smythe Jr

LT: Mike McGlinchey Jr

2. Alex Bars Soph

LG: Quenton Nelson Soph

2. Colin McGovern Soph

C: Sam Mustipher Soph

2. Tristen Hoge Soph

RG: Hunter Bivin Jr

2. Colin McGovern Jr

RT: Alex Bars Soph

2. Hunter Bivin Jr

ND's two deep has the following amount of year available:

1 year 5 players

2 years 13 players

3 years 21 players

4 years 10 players

So ND has 31 players in their two-deep who are underclassman. And 44 with at least 2 years left.

That is very young. They are just proven winners.

You would have a point in the first part of your post if there was some rule that said only seniors can be drafted into the NFL. Since that's not the case, why even go there? The subject happens to be NFL scouts, not how many seniors you have or don't have.

Then you waste bandwidth proving your irrelevant point.

And then you top it off with "They are just proven winners."

Please tell me, what has a freshmen or sophomore done to prove they are winners? Since there's really no answer for that, I suppose we're only talking about your juniors then?

LOL, that was certainly fun. lol

You convinced me, hornsalot.

In other words, when you have no point, dive into ridicule.

I don't know where McConaughey will be or not be and I'm not sure this game is affected by that in any way. Texas really doesn't have much to look at with regard to draft talent so if that's your implication, I'll agree with that.

I don't waste much time worrying about where scouts are going to park their hind ends on any given Saturday. I'll let you fret about that stuff.

Keep the arrogance in check and we won't have to conduct this exercise.

Wrong, you are too easy since you have zero knowledge of NDs roster. Lol. Easy.

There is only ONE Junior who has been rated as a NFL draft pick, McGlinchey. He says he is staying for his Senior year. But even if he does go, that makes THREE total. Jones, Rochell & McGlinchey.

Show me another draft eligible player from ND who has received NFL attention or a draft grade?

As far as proven winners. The players returning who were freshmen & sophomores last year won 10 games. They were forced to play because of injuries, but when they did, they did great. And won a lot. Rewards the 4th Q of the ND/Texas game last year. That was a bunch of ND freshman.

Summary:

ND has THREE draft eligible players who have received NFL grades. That's all.

All 34 of the players in the two deep this year who were freshman it sophomores last year played (even started) in a majority of games in a 10 win season.

Lol. Easy.

I read your posts, & you are the guy on every board who says what he wants to be true, not the actual truth. Keep living that dream. Lol

First time I've ever seen anyone post "we suck" and "we're great" in the same post.

Bravo.

These are the draft prospects for this year at Notre Dame, according to http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2017/all

You're right. I don't know your roster. But apparently, you don't either. lol

Cole Luke CB 5 Notre Dame Sr 5-11 193

Isaac Rochell DE 4 Notre Dame Sr 6-3 290

Jarron Jones DT 2 Notre Dame rSr 6-5 315

Max Redfield FS 1 Notre Dame Sr 6-1 205

Avery Sebastian FS –– Notre Dame rSr 5-10 200

Scott Daly LS 2 Notre Dame rSr 6-2 250

Mark Harrell OG –– Notre Dame rSr 6-4 306

James Onwualu OLB 10 Notre Dame Sr 6-1 232

Corey Robinson WR –– Notre Dame Sr 6-4 215

The above list does not include Malik Zaier, Taurean Folster, Tori Hunter or Durham Smythe, all of whom could enter the draft.

Interesting postulate and perspective.

Too bad it's absolutely, totally, indisputably incorrect.

There's simply not room for any more warm bodies in the 'ol shack.  Welcome to ND Footballand the incomparable national following, Hornsports...

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000680800/article/seating-pinch-to-limit-nfl-scouting-presence-at-ndtexas

Cancelling Christmas because the other is going to get more presents?  I love it, Coot!  If I were a UT senior with an NFL dream, I would be absolutely pissed if this were true.

You could negatively recruit that bit if you were a competing school poaching prospects.  Jeez, the Aggies would eat that up on the recruiting trail.

This forum is great.

I was apprehensive  and curious as to when the ND arrogance would show up in what had been up to now a great football discussion with a bit of smack between respected rivals......sigggghhhh....sadly, it has arrived. Fred and Farley have generally been good posters on several Longhorn sites, but I fear they have egged each other off the reservation. Back when Fred said that Ohio State was no Notre Dame I knew I was dealing wih skewed fan logic the likes of which I have seen in only one other fan base.

It is easy to be arrogant and pompus when you are greatly favored.I like it....keep piling that pressure upon yourselves. Let me tell you something that you already believe. We are in a football backwater here....we dont know much...I know yall agree so far, but here is the catch. We are so backward that we dont buy in even a tiny bit that ND is all that. Fact is that yall have been so inconsequential since the 1940's that many in these parts dont think you are ANY of that. When was the last time yall won a title? Are you going to win one this year?

Dont tell me what a great schedule yall have to slog through every year....when have you ever had to try and get through what we had to go through in 2009?

I have a standing bet with Farley which I will honor if ND wins. He never flatly said he would honor it if Texas won, but I really feel that he would

Good luck to yall in this game as I think you are going to need it. I hope for no injuries on either side on the ball

It's all in good fun, Oldhorn.  Don't take the internet troll posters too seriously, I always have to remind myself.

Both UT and ND's fan bases are pretty arrogant and obnoxious, at least some of them.  They may spoil the bunch, but isn't it in good fun as long as nobody takes it too seriously?

Substantiating the UT arrogance that I just mentioned, I remember seeing posts on this very forum regarding Nick Saban as ALREADY being signed as a the coach of UT, with an oil derrick being bestowed upon him as part of the fine print of the lucrative contract. Homes were in the agreement, with wineries and automobiles.  Thousands of gallons of crude per hour will be at his disposal for spending money.  Many posters on this forum saying that the contract was north of 20MM per year, and that UT has more money than the GDP of some first world countries.  And all other schools are simply poor.

This post that was inducted into the Arrogant CFB forum HOF included the proclamations that this coach was already signed.  The ink was dried, mind you, per these internet biographers. Lots of them on here.  It was like a feeding frenzy, groupthink gone awfully awry.   Some of these posters (that still are on this forum) stated that everything else was simply 'smoke" until the news is officially released to shock the college football world.  Those posts grew contentious - and they were ridiculous beyond... well, you get the point.

Enjoy the mild ribbing between two of college football's greatest teams and fan bases.

I'm not going to dignify the comments about ND being irrelevant "in these parts".  About the last time we won a title.  I'm not going to compare our drought of nattys to yours.  That we don't play for conference championships, about our TV contract vs your TV contract, that you have the "richest" football program at the cost of whoring out the jumbotron with more advertisements than times square.  I really don't care about any of that.

I don't care about your 2009 schedule and who won the SWC championship in nineteen ninety whatever...  I trust that the feeling is mutual.

You know that this game is cyclical, and luck is involved.  You may have found your HC for the next decade, or you may be on the front end of a 10 year coaching search...

And, for the record, we are no Ohio State.  I'm not walking that back.  And I'll let you give me a PM apology comparing us to that other school in Texas.  That way, your other buds on this forum will not have to see that you did the right thing, as you are a gentleman and a Texas Man.

Loosen up and enjoy the game!  It's going to be a great one!

It's really not fun to watch someone make an asshole of themselves. When someone comes into your living room, you truly don't expect them to talk about how they'll humiliate you in one breath and then pat you on the back with the next.

There are dirty beach towels out there with more charming personalities than yours.

How you act and behave leaves an impression. It really doesn't matter how you prefer to be described or prefer not to be described. Your behavior dictates that for you, whether you like it or not.

The game is Sept. 4. This is Aug. 7. Yet, you're telling us to enjoy the game. I suppose we'll do that around Sept. 4. You on the other hand, should probably celebrate your victory now since it won't come on Sept. 4. If it's all the same to you, your arrogant for no reason attitude might be best served somewhere else.

If you pull your underwear over your head around here, people are going to quickly tell you about it. No getting around that one.

Try Orangebloods. I think it's more your style. They'll absolutely love you there. lol
