It's all in good fun, Oldhorn. Don't take the internet troll posters too seriously, I always have to remind myself.
Both UT and ND's fan bases are pretty arrogant and obnoxious, at least some of them. They may spoil the bunch, but isn't it in good fun as long as nobody takes it too seriously?
Substantiating the UT arrogance that I just mentioned, I remember seeing posts on this very forum regarding Nick Saban as ALREADY being signed as a the coach of UT, with an oil derrick being bestowed upon him as part of the fine print of the lucrative contract. Homes were in the agreement, with wineries and automobiles. Thousands of gallons of crude per hour will be at his disposal for spending money. Many posters on this forum saying that the contract was north of 20MM per year, and that UT has more money than the GDP of some first world countries. And all other schools are simply poor.
This post that was inducted into the Arrogant CFB forum HOF included the proclamations that this coach was already signed. The ink was dried, mind you, per these internet biographers. Lots of them on here. It was like a feeding frenzy, groupthink gone awfully awry. Some of these posters (that still are on this forum) stated that everything else was simply 'smoke" until the news is officially released to shock the college football world. Those posts grew contentious - and they were ridiculous beyond... well, you get the point.
Enjoy the mild ribbing between two of college football's greatest teams and fan bases.
I'm not going to dignify the comments about ND being irrelevant "in these parts". About the last time we won a title. I'm not going to compare our drought of nattys to yours. That we don't play for conference championships, about our TV contract vs your TV contract, that you have the "richest" football program at the cost of whoring out the jumbotron with more advertisements than times square. I really don't care about any of that.
I don't care about your 2009 schedule and who won the SWC championship in nineteen ninety whatever... I trust that the feeling is mutual.
You know that this game is cyclical, and luck is involved. You may have found your HC for the next decade, or you may be on the front end of a 10 year coaching search...
And, for the record, we are no Ohio State. I'm not walking that back. And I'll let you give me a PM apology comparing us to that other school in Texas. That way, your other buds on this forum will not have to see that you did the right thing, as you are a gentleman and a Texas Man.
Loosen up and enjoy the game! It's going to be a great one!
I was apprehensive and curious as to when the ND arrogance would show up in what had been up to now a great football discussion with a bit of smack between respected rivals......sigggghhhh....sadly, it has arrived. Fred and Farley have generally been good posters on several Longhorn sites, but I fear they have egged each other off the reservation. Back when Fred said that Ohio State was no Notre Dame I knew I was dealing wih skewed fan logic the likes of which I have seen in only one other fan base.
It is easy to be arrogant and pompus when you are greatly favored.I like it....keep piling that pressure upon yourselves. Let me tell you something that you already believe. We are in a football backwater here....we dont know much...I know yall agree so far, but here is the catch. We are so backward that we dont buy in even a tiny bit that ND is all that. Fact is that yall have been so inconsequential since the 1940's that many in these parts dont think you are ANY of that. When was the last time yall won a title? Are you going to win one this year?
Dont tell me what a great schedule yall have to slog through every year....when have you ever had to try and get through what we had to go through in 2009?
I have a standing bet with Farley which I will honor if ND wins. He never flatly said he would honor it if Texas won, but I really feel that he would
Good luck to yall in this game as I think you are going to need it. I hope for no injuries on either side on the ball
