Notre Dame is coming to town!

.

But the simple fact, that cannot be successfully argued or rebutted, is that there is no better venue for a college football game than at Notre Dame Stadium.  That's just a fact.  It is the benchmark against which all other college football experiences are unfairly judged.

Well get ready for a new benchmark on September 4th. :)

I remember that play.  That should have been a keeper.  That was pure negligence on the part of Powlus, as Westbrook was running flat out before the pitch to nullify the pitch-man.  He's lucky that he did not get carted out of DKR.

This year, Zaire will simply break the ankles of the free safety for a gain of 22.

Go Irish!

The free safety should get some rest in this game. Not sure Zaire is as good an athlete as our MLB.

I cannot wait to see that matchup.

Zaire is a man-child.

And nobody is getting rest in this game.  Trust me.

I'm thinking you guys better have a medic unit ready. You can't duplicate Texas heat by adjusting fan speeds LOL. But that was funny if thats what you were attempting to do.

Zaire will never come back to Texas after Sept. 4. lol

I don't not after I saw the movie Concussion, I want to see Texas play great defense and win the game. We don't need plays like that to have a top defense.

Thats great. Hollywood never embellishes anything. Not dismissing head injuries or their significance. I just don't follow Hollywood's lead, ever. I'd sooner follow my dog.

If we don't hit, we're not playing football. I don't want anyone hurt, but how do you play not to hurt anyone? If we play like that, we'll lose.

That said, give me Nathan Vasher for $500 Alex.

IMO, part of the responsibility for the hit, above, lies with the coach who called the play and the QB who threw the dying duck and hung the WR out to dry. What if Vasher tries to grab his shirt instead and misses? We give up a TD because we're afraid to hurt somebody?

Thanks for the flashbacks SHA. Football is a physical violent sport. You're not trying to injure anybody but inflicting pain is part of the game. Anybody who played understands. Those that didn't, don't.

I really didn't expect you to blame Hollywood about the seriousness of the concussion problem. You say your not dismissing head injuries, however that's exactly what your doing. I hate to insult you, but you sound like Roger Goodell. You may follow your own dog, but your dog sounds like Roger. If you think the concussion problem is from that movie then you have your head in the sand.

Not only that, but lets say that Malik Jefferson makes that same hit on a Notre Dame player on September 4th. I'm sure at first Longhorn fans including myself will be cheering and excited, however after the review ND will have a first down with  penalty yards and  Jefferson would probably be thrown out of the game.

I watched Westbrook's hit three times in slow motion and what was a legal hit in 1996 is not legal in 2016, Westbrook hit him too high which looked to me that he would have been thrown out of the game if that happened today.

I understand that football is a hard hitting sport and everyone who plays it is taking a risk, however everything should be done as much as possible to eliminate high hits to the head.

We may have to agree to disagree. The play is a lateral, not a forward pass. He is not a receiver thus is not protected by that rule.

Westbrook led with both his arms to the upper chest area, although his head did make contact. I don't think they do a thing to MJ and yes, I will applaud loudly.

I'm going to agree with you that we will have to agree to disagree on this. It doesn't matter anymore if it's a lateral or forward pass. You said it yourself his head did make contact. In my judgment that would be a flag and probably Westbrook would be thrown out of the game if that play were today. Your opinion is that it wasn't at that level.

Oh well, it still was and is a great play by Westbrook. I guess we can go back to the real purpose of this thread the ND game.

Texas restricts NFL scouts from coming to their biggest game of the season?

You have to be kidding me... but I understand Strong for the move.  He is simply protecting his NFL eligible players from losing stock if they get  soundly beaten and humiliated by an Irish team that is definitely playoff-bound, which is a real possibility?

Or perhaps there are no viable draft prospects on this year's UT team?  Jefferson is too young to declare.  The article mentioned Swoopes as eligible this year.

Strange decision by Texas...

I seriously doubt that's the reason, irish. Strong is not like that. More than likely, pro scouts take up coaches' and players' time, and we will be having recruits who want to come to that game.

If I'm a coach, recruits are more important at the biggest game of the year, which is also the first game, than pro scouts. Incidentally, so is my team.

Just my thoughts. Hook 'em!
