SignUp Now!I have a strong suspicion that Sark addressed Mr. Coburn’s weight and any other potential issues as a requirement to his being a Texas Longhorn in 2022.Apparently, he wasn't told to move on by Sark when they had their one-on-one meeting. Like some others have been. So there's that.
As bad as our OL was, he couldn't sniff playing time.Part of our invisible OL.
The NIL rule is going to be a Pandora's box of problems. One thing I see being a problem is position groups arguing about not getting as much money as other position groups. I am seeing some post already about that. They seem to be joking about it, but I can assure you that it won’t keep being a joke.
It's a new world with new problems. I would think most players would understand that some positions are more coveted then others. One thing I see being a problem is position groups arguing about not getting as much money as other position groups. I disagree. EVERY position thinks they’re the most coveted. People look at what other people are making…….it’s human nature. What if the guy getting paid the most throws 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles and the guy getting paid the least plays spectacular? It’s going to be a tight rope to keep the locker room family and no hard feelings. It's a new world with new problems. I guess each player needs to decide what school suits them best based on coaching, environment education and now add in compensation.
100k a year plus tuition housing and food and various other expenses is way more money then the vast majority of the players have ever received. I worry more about how this new found spending power will be a distraction then I worry about them being pissed that some other player(s) is making more.
In most work environment different people make different amounts of money. It creates a certain amount of frustration to some but mostly people accept it. Personally I like the idea of paying based on experience and performance. If someone makes less they hopefully work hard and learn how they can be more useful to the organization and move up. Some people will just be frustrated they are making less, but if they can't or won't step up that's on them not on the employer.I disagree. EVERY position thinks they’re the most coveted. I agree that this brings a lot more distractions. These kids put a lot of hours into football and school work. The distraction is always worrying about what my line of ___________ (fill in the blank is doing).
It’s new so we’ll see how it goes. The NCAA needs to be abolished. There is no “cheating” anymore. The biggest money is going to have a huge leg up (if they play it right) and the smaller outfits are going to get left behind.
Same issue exists in the NFL. Not all players are paid the same. Quarterbacks make more than any position. Left tackles make more than guards. Same in business, same in life.I disagree. Good point, Bijan is a good example, but how will that affect team play? Team players like Bijan and Roschon are rare. We will see showboating like never before. That will be a problem that every team will face, but football as a team first sport is history, IMHO....if they make enough of a name for themselves they can get a personal NIL deal.
Yes true but to me it’s different in college. In the pros they agree to that up front……and it is locked in for several years. It’s a business.Same issue exists in the NFL. Not all players are paid the same. Quarterbacks make more than any position. Left tackles make more than guards. Same in business, same in life.
This is totally outlawed based on the NIL rules. Now, better players will naturally get more deals, but deals can't pay for on field performance directly.I would be in favor of game bonuses. The better a player grades out based on film evaluation the bigger the game bonus. I'm not sure if this would be allowed but it would avoid part of the issue you point out that pay is not correlated to game performance.
I think each position group will have a similar type of deal before long. Seems they wanted to announce the OL deal to help boost recruiting this week but the description of the Horns with Heart organization discusses expanding out to all position groups and other sports. I think these across the board type of deals will be pretty much equivalent for all position groups. One thing I see being a problem is position groups arguing about not getting as much money as other position groups. That’s what I am thinking as well. OLine is the big need and there are some 5star guys out there so this first wave is there. It should be similar on other positions soon. Good take ?I think each position group will have a similar type of deal before long. You can't be paid for the game. No game bonuses. This is Name Image and Likeness. You can't be paid for TDs, Sacks, Interceptions. I'm sure that after your production increases the value of your NIL goes up. But you can't be paid for on field performance. In most work environment different people make different amounts of money. From the way it sounds most players will make 100k, and if they make enough of a name for themselves they can get a personal NIL deal.

I wasn't sure if it was allowed, thanks for clarifying. In my Mind it's too bad. The NIL basically makes these athletes professionals, but puts some artificial constraints on exactly how their compensation can be structured. This is totally outlawed based on the NIL rules. If you kind of squint and turn your head a bit, NIL does not make them professionals. They aren't being paid to play. They are being paid for the Name/Image/Likeness. So now schools can make a fortune selling jerseys with their names on them or have posters with their Image/Likeness on them. Schools can now do this without any guilt of taking advantage of the student athlete. ?I wasn't sure if it was allowed, thanks for clarifying. In my Mind it's too bad.
