Coastal Longhorns - Hurricane Harvey Thread

Got a text from Aaron this morning.  He's still holed up in his house, but the rains have continued to come down.  They're still dry in the house at this point.

Mandatory evacuation in Dickinson just announced.  Thing just keeps spinning over the Houston metro area.  Barker & Addicks dams are releasing water from the gates.  Conroe dam is releasing water from the gates.  Sienna Plantation trying to pump their water out, but are apparently having issues with the pump system.  Mandatory evac in Ft Bend County, (Missouri City/Sienna Plantation)

Stay safe folks.

Looks like Aaron is going to be fine. He is of course still surrounded by water and can't get anywhere via car, but he was able to walk to a convenience store today and pick some things up. He posted some pictures on FB today. Just unbelievable what they're going through.

I have heard that Mayweather has donated $200 million to Houston relief. The owner of the Rockets has donated $10 million.

Don't forget about our friends down in the Rockport, Refugio, Port Aransas areas as those town were totally devastated and most of the attention seems to have been focused on Houston for the past few days.

I believe the Mayweather donation was fake news. The Alexander donation is legit though. The support is coming in from all directions and it has been fanstastic to see.

JJ Watt did a fundraiser and raised $3 million in less than a day as well.

Also, Marucci is selling shirts where proceeds go directly to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Effort, paying it forward from when Texans helped out the folks in Louisiana during their last hurricane.

HurricaneHarvey Relief

Hurricane Harvey brought unprecedented rainfall, flooding, and destruction to the state of Texas with thousands of people losing everything, including their homes, businesses, and for some, even their lives.

Being no stranger to natural disasters ourselves, Marucci is committed to assisting in recovery efforts and raising awareness for our neighbors in Texas, who were there for us in Louisiana after last year’s devastating floods.

Could see more donations come after high school football games this week. I'm sure many high schools will have somewhere that you can donate money at the games.

Gents affected, thought this may interest you:

"I hope this doesn't turn (too) political, but this last Legislative session, laws were passed that will limit and/or restrict claims made by property owners against their insurance carriers. Those laws go into effect on September 1, 2017. These new laws lift many of the protections and remedies that Texans had concerning claims so please be careful.

For anyone who lives in any area affected by Hurricane Harvey, this is an email sent by the Texas State Bar President-Elect, Joe Longley:

"Important changes affecting property damage claims under Texas Insurance Law will go into effect on Friday, September 1, 2017.

To attempt to take advantage of current Texas Insurance Law protecting property owners’ with regard to damage claims resulting from HURRICANE HARVEY, policyholders should send a written message and/or email directly to their insurance company that (1) specifically references their claim; AND (2) is dated BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2017.

Telephone messages will not suffice to give written notice.

KEEP A HARD COPY OF WHAT IS SENT." (I added the emphasis)"

.....and on a slightly different note.....How about those Rangers?...They refused the Astros request to trade their home games in September with the Astros, forcing the Astros to play their "home games with the Rangers in Tampa....totally classless move when you consider Herman inviting UH to Austin to use their facilities....and the Cowboys offering their facilities to the Texans....unbelievable!

I understand the "disbelief" and "angst" regarding the "denial" of the Astro's request, especially considering the situation.  But it's not as "bad' as it's being reported.  The Rangers agreed to host the Houston series in Arlington.  And even agreed to be the visiting team.  They just didn't want to travel to Houston in late September which would give them 4 consecutive away series during the last month of the season while they're making their playoff push.  It also affects Rangers ticket holders. I'm not really trying to defend them because I think they should have bitten the bullet.  But there is more to the story than just "no".  I hope this makes sense...

Cowboys and Texans game has been canceled to let players who live in Houston or have family there return home to check on family/friends/property

Hey @JimsTexas, any update on your situation in Houston?  You guys stay high and dry?

Anyone in Orange, West Orange, Vidor, Beaumont, Evadale, Rose City and surrounding areas, it's bad today.  Neches and Sabine rivers rose at an astronomical rate the past 24 hours, stranding many.  Hearing Beaumont is w/o primary & secondary water supplies.

This is pure bullshit!!! How magnanimous of the Rangers...agreeing to "host" the Houston series and agreeing to "allow" the Astros be the home team. The whole deal  is a chickenshit move by a totally chickenshit franchise. The Rangers are out of any contention....they gave away their best pitcher and are simply playing out the string. All the Rangers had to do was agree to switch the series....but no!

Jerra Jones offered the Texans full use of his facilities....that was class. Anytime Jerra Jones can "outclass" someone it is astonishing.....The Texas Rangers are simply disgusting.    playoff push my ass!....If they had any interest in a playoff push they would have kept Darvish.

Again, I get it and I'm not trying to defend them.  They're actually in the hunt for a wild card birth (1.5 games back with 30 games left) and from a franchise standpoint, not putting yourself in position to play 4 consecutive away series in the final month of the season makes perfect sense.  I do wish  they had simply said "ok" and agreed to switch...
