Mack Brown announced Monday in his weekly press conference that Case McCoy would get the start on Saturday night when the Longhorns take on Kansas State in Manhattan. David Ash, who has started every game at quarterback this season for Texas, is questionable after suffering a rib injury in the TCU game. With the probable redshirting of freshmen quarterbacks Jalen Overstreet and Connor Brewer, Duke transfer and punter Alex King is listed as the third string quarterback behind McCoy and the injured David Ash. King, no stranger to the position, is a former high school quarterback and assumed the role of 3rd string quarterback for the Blue Devils when injury struck starting quarterback Thad Lewis in 2009.
Case McCoy has an opportunity to lead the team to a victory over Bill Snyder’s Wildcats who have beaten the Longhorns in the last four meetings between the two schools. McCoy, a junior, has made appearances in 7 games this year for Texas including leading the Longhorns to a come-from-behind victory over Kansas on October 27th.
