The commit numbers are a little confusing we know, as only a week and a half ago we listed the #15 commit as Cibolo Steele Safety Erick Huhn. Well, since the Ricky Seals-Jones news (no, I will not leave it alone) things have shifted a bit. In what could only be considered a stealth recruiting mission of double top secret proportions the Texas Longhorns selected their second tight end in the 2013 class with an offer to and commitment from Butte Community College Tight End (CA) Geoff Swaim. Who? Geoff Swaim. No, not Greg Swaim the Big Time Sports guy on Twitter but GEOFF Swaim. ESPN Horns Nation’s William Wilkerson broke the news last night via Twitter:

There is not a lot of film on Swaim but his specs are 6’5 250 lbs. and he looks to be a a proficient blocking tight end with good movement and can maybe play fullback too (see his HUDL video here ) . The Texas fans we talked with were surprised and somewhat incredulous that Beau Sandland who has offers from no less than 18 quality programs was not the tight end the Texas Longhorns grabbed. We thought Mansfield tight end Trent Gow was a guy that ultimately had a chance to play in burnt orange because of his blocking skills which are only going to get better. Either way Mack Brown has a commitment from a player the thinks can help the offense. Texas has reached out to the juco ranks for the second year in a row, deviating again from historical program protocol. With limited scholarship offers Swaim must possess talent that can help the team. Welcome to the 40 acres Greg!
