No. 2 Texas crushed No. 8 Oklahoma in Thursday night’s series opener, defeating the Sooners in a 14-0 run-rule victory in seven innings at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The win was the largest shutout in Red River Rivalry history on the diamond, eclipsing an 11–0 win from 1961 and tying the Longhorns’ second-largest margin of victory in the long-time series. The victory put the Longhorns to 20–4 overall and 5–2 in SEC play, knocking the Sooners down to 19–6 and 4–3 in conference action.
Casey Borba drove the Longhorns’ offense with a career night, going three-for-four with six RBIs and a home run. The junior infielder helped set the tone early, driving in two runs in the first inning then adding one RBI double in the third and a two-run shot in the fifth.
Jayden Duplantier also drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the fourth, and Aiden Robbins and Temo Becerra each put up three hits and three runs.
The combination of these four multi-run innings put the game out of reach early. All nine Texas starters notched at least one hit.
On the mound, sophomore right-hander Ruger Riojas (5–0) sensationalized, throwing a complete game shutout for the first time in his career and the first for the program since 2022. He fanned eight Sooners in seven scoreless innings and allowed only six hits on 105 pitches.
Oklahoma starter LJ Mercurius (5–2) struggled against Texas’ lineup, giving up seven runs on ten hits over two innings of work.
The Longhorns will try to lock up the series on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.
