Rumors that Kent Perkins would pledge to The University of Texas today held true. The Lake Highlands offensive tackle made the second Junior Day visit on Saturday and was offered a scholarship almost immediately. Perkins is a solid 6’5″ 300lbs. and is ranked as the 25th best recruit in the nation by Rivals.com. Some scouting services had Perkins ranked in the top 20 nationally, but that’s all moot at this point. What matters is he is now a Longhorn commit – the 10th commit to be precise. While the Texas recruiting strategy with the ’13 recruits was not supposed to unfold as quickly as it has, it is safe to say that the 10 commits thus far fill definite needs. Forecasting two seasons out in terms of capacity is not the easiest thing in the world, but Texas is doing everything to ensure continuity and quality.
Perkins was high on a lot of schools’ lists, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, LSU and Texas A&M.
