https://www.hornsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Ash-McCoy.jpgIt is another fall, and camp has started in preparation for football season in Texas. As the excitement builds towards the upcoming season, this is another year with a quarterback controversy and this is becoming a yearly problem on the forty acres. There hasn’t been a stable off-season with the quarterback position since Colt McCoy left.

This year’s controversy comes down between Case McCoy, little brother of Colt and David Ash. There will be a divide between fans as to which one would be the better starter. “Experts” and analysts will say that Ash is the better quarterback because he is more mobile and has the stronger arm. And McCoy is the sentimental favorite because of what his brother did. Either way, both these guys will be battling for the starter position.

Last year Mack and company tried to play both quarterbacks equally and at times it worked, but as teams started to figure it out, it turned out to be a mistake. The only way either quarterback is going to excel is to get them the majority of playing time. Hopefully the coaches will realize that the two quarterback system will not work and just ride with one, until it becomes evident that it isn’t going to work.

The fans will always want the guy on the bench when things are going bad, but as this team grows and matures, it needs one quarterback to be leader. Hopefully one quarterback will be named the starter soon, so the team can focus on building that much needed chemistry before the beginning of the season. Mack needs to ride with one quarterback whether it is good, bad or just plain ugly, because that quarterback will build confidence and improve through playing time.
