So, on the 40 acres, Longhorn fans are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1963 National Championship team. They start off facing the Aggies of New Mexico State, who came off of a 1-11 campaign in the 2012 season.
That lone win? It was against Sacramento State, of the FCS’s-own Big Sky Conference. The best thing for the Big Sky? North Dakota hockey. Let that sink in.
For any reasonable college football fan who know the basics, the Longhorns should be able to chalk this game up as a victory. The sad part is, upsets happen and Mack and company are sure aware of that fact.
The lone player the Longhorns should be worried about is the safety, David Cazares, who led the Aggies with 116 tackles, which propelled him to the all-WAC second team. I know, snooze-fest of an award. There isn’t much to this team, and they may very well take the cake as the worst team in FBS this season.
The Aggies also do not fare well against ranked opponents and the Big XII. They’re 1-18 and 2-16 respectively. That lone ranked win was against Arizona State.
For Longhorn fans, I would not worry, unless the Horns are down 0-14 to start the second quarter. As the Dallas Morning News would give their opinion on the keys for UT to win the game, it would say this: “Make it out of the locker room without tripping over their own shoes.
Give me 45-13, Longhorns.
