In case you were not able to attend or watch the live stream of today’s public memorial service for the legendary Darrell Royal, it was an incredible display of appreciation, rememberance and celebration of the life of one of the greatest coaches and men of all time. Coach Royal was officially laid to rest on Monday but his spirit will live on forever as it did today in a crowded Frank Erwin Center. There were many former players and coaches in attendance as well as Royal’s longtime friends Willie Nelson and Ben Crenshaw.
In closing the memorial service, 93 year old legendary former band director Vincent DiNino (UT band director from 1955-1985) led the unit he helped essentially create, in a powerful performance of “The Eyes of Texas.”
HOOK ‘EM HORNS and Godspeed Coach Royal.
