On Saturday, Jaydon Blue will be Texas’ X-factor. Last weekend, the Longhorns running back, almost quietly, rushed for 124 yards and scored four all-purpose touchdowns. With uncertainty at quarterback thanks to Quinn Ewers’ injury, the team will have to rely on Blue to shoulder much of the load offensively. Furthermore, due to injuries at the running back position, Blue will need to be on the field for the majority of the game.

DeRaud’s X-Factors:

At quarterback, freshman Michael Van Buren will be the focal point of Mississippi State’s offense as he makes his first start against a tough Texas defense in a hostile environment. On defense, Texas is expected to dial up heavy blitzes to disrupt the young quarterback and test his ability to handle pressure. As a result, the key X-factor for Mississippi State will be freshman wide receiver Mario Craver. Along with Craver, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Jordan Mosely will need to step up. Furthermore, to counter Texas’ aggressive approach, Mississippi State will need to utilize the quick passing game.

Offensively, Craver and the receiving corps will be tasked with making plays after the catch. If they can generate significant yards after contact, the Bulldogs have a chance to keep pace with Texas’ high-powered offense.
