AUSTIN – When Oklahoma’s Amath M’Baye threw down a dunk, late in the second half, and flashed the ‘Hook’ Em Horns” hand sign downwards, the Sooners led Texas by 22 and were in complete control.

Apparently, the Longhorns weren’t amused.

It kick-started a Texas comeback for the ages, punctuated by a Myck Kabongo prayer at the buzzer that was answered sending the blood-thirsty rivals into an extra frame.

In overtime, Ioannis Papaetrou hit a three-pointer with :38 seconds left, giving UT the lead for good, and Texas knocked off Oklahoma, 92-86 at the Frank Erwin Center on Wednesday in the Big-12 regular season finale.

Texas (13-15) went on a 43-18 run with over 12 minutes left in regulation, and outscored OU, 15-11 in the extra stanza. And they have Kabongo to thank.

The sophomore point guard put on a clinic, pouring in 31 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, and four steals, including hitting big shots down the stretch. Sheldon McClellan added 18 points, including three clutch free-throws with :22 seconds remaining in the fourth, cutting OU’s lead to one, 76-75.

Romero Osby led Oklahoma (18-9) with 31 points, Steven Pledger tallied 18, and M’Baye chimed in with 16 points.

Both teams will be in action for the Phillips 66 Big-12 tournament starting March 13, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
