http://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/McCoy-Ash2-150×150.jpgMack Brown and Brian Harsin have been working with a two quarterback system since the BYU game and for the most part it was successful, but then they ran into the Oklahoma defense and then it didn’t work anymore. It is easy to make the system work when you are playing some of the lower defenses in the country, and being able to out athlete your opponent. Now that the Longhorns coaching staff has seen that the system won’t work against one of the best teams in the country, it is time to sit down and pick one quarterback to lead the charge for the remainder of the season.
Texas is in a very lucky position to have two quarterbacks that have shown the potential to lead the team for the next three or four years. But they are unluckyhttp://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Ash-150×150.jpg in the fact that they will have to choose one to start and hope that the other one will not choose to leave the school for a deserved opportunity elsewhere. Case McCoy and David Ash are neck and neck in a lot of categories on the field, but Case McCoy already has built in chemistry with receiver Jaxson Shipley, and McCoy looks to be more accomplished passer between the two.
I am not saying that Ash isn’t a good passer, but McCoy looks to be stronger in that category. Ash looks to have the better feel for a running game and more of an option attack. With the weapons on the receiving corps and the fact that Harsin likes to run a wide open offense, Case McCoy would look like the better option to be your starter and every down quarterback. Obviously this is just my opinion and I would like to see them run with one QB at the helm and build some chemistry and a routine with that one quarterback.
http://www.bevoball.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/McCOy2-150×150.jpgObviously if they chose McCoy, then they could still use Ash as a potential weapon on different schemes, mostly like the “Wild Horn†that they have been known to run from time to time. David Ash could be a solid weapon for all kinds of trick plays and special schemes, but in an emergency he is accomplished enough to be able to step in and be you’re every down quarterback if something happened and he needed to. Obviously this will be a divided issue with the fan base, so hopefully the coaching staff will chose the right quarterback who has shown the character to lead and be a general on the field. And to me that quarterback has been Case McCoy to this point of the season.
