Outlook:
When USC released Kendal Yancy from his scholarship, Texas immediately jumped in and was able to secure the commitment and signature of the 4 star guard. Many projected him to be a force on the squad in 2013-14 but he ended up being a role player that contributed only limited minutes.
On average, Yancy played 12 minutes/game and contributed 3 ppg, 1 apg. and 2 rpg. It’s worth noting that Yancy played a significant role in the Big 12 tournament, averaging 19.5 minutes and 7.5 points per game.
The expectation for this season is for Yancy to be more productive in his minutes. It’s clear that Rick Barnes trusts him to play good defensive basketball but instead of 3 points per game, this team needs him to contribute closer to 9 ppg. That additional 6 points per game would do great things for the Longhorns offensively – most importantly it would stretch out the defense. If Yancy does what he did in the Big 12 tournament throughout the upcoming season, he will help increase the win total for the Longhorns.
