OKLAHOMA CITY — Texas and Texas Tech meet again with the national championship on the line, and this time the stakes are even clearer: a Lone Star State rivalry that already produced a dramatic title series last season now returns for another best-of-three battle.
Texas Tech sends ace NiJaree Canady to the circle, and that alone gives the Red Raiders a chance in every game. Canady has been the engine of their run, and Texas will need to avoid quick outs and force her into long innings if it wants to regain control of the series.
Texas counters with Teagan Kavan, who gives the Longhorns the same kind of stability in the circle. The matchup could come down to which pitcher limits traffic on the bases, because both teams have enough power to change a game with one swing.
The history between these teams adds another layer. Texas beat Texas Tech in three games for the 2025 title, taking the opener 2-1, dropping Game 2, then winning the decisive game 10-4 to claim its first national championship. Texas Tech also showed last year that it can rattle Texas, and the Red Raiders nearly forced a different ending before the Longhorns closed it out.
Offensively, Texas has the deeper lineup, with multiple run producers capable of driving the ball out of the park or creating damage in the gaps. Texas Tech, meanwhile, leans on power and big moments, with Mia Williams and Jackie Lis among the bats Texas must plan around.
The key questions are simple: can Texas Tech turn Canady into a series-long advantage, and can Texas answer with balanced offense and cleaner execution in the late innings? The team that handles pressure best, especially in the first game, will be the one that controls the tone of the championship series.
