Left fielder Adrian Rodriguez hit a clutch home run in the eighth inning, propelling No. 1 Texas to a narrow 6-5 victory over Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Rodriguez’s three-hit performance, highlighted by his opposite-field solo shot, helped the Longhorns (37-5, 19-2 SEC) secure their first sweep of the Aggies (24-19, 8-13 SEC) since 2010. Rodriguez now boasts a .345 batting average with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs this season.
With this win, Texas became only the third team to start 19-2 or better in SEC play since the league expanded to a 30-game conference schedule in 1996, joining the ranks of 2013 Vanderbilt and 2022 Tennessee.
Right-handed pitcher Grayson Saunier (1-0) earned his first win as a Longhorn, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings before righty Max Grubbs (5) closed the game with a 3-6-1 double play on just four pitches. Saunier has a 2.45 ERA over 22 innings pitched this season.
In his 87th career appearance — the eighth-most in program history — right-hander Andre Duplantier II pitched a season-long 5 2/3 innings, holding Texas A&M to three runs after entering with two runners on and no outs in the second inning. Duplantier II has a 3.60 ERA and 65 strikeouts this season.
Texas supported Duplantier II by scoring two runs in the third inning. Rodriguez and sophomore Tommy Farmer IV hit back-to-back doubles to start the frame. Farmer IV is hitting .310 with 8 home runs and 30 RBIs this season. Two batters later, second baseman Ethan Mendoza brought Rodriguez home with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 2-2. Mendoza has a .295 batting average with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs.
Texas A&M regained the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run double from Wyatt Henseler, but the Longhorns mounted their 18th comeback win of the season. Texas scored three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a go-ahead two-RBI single from catcher Rylan Galvan. Galvan is hitting .320 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.
Throughout the weekend, the Longhorns set a new three-game series attendance record at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, with 23,680 fans witnessing Texas’ seventh sweep of 2025.
The Longhorns will next face Prairie View A&M on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
