The Texas Longhorns baseball team has ascended to the No. 1 spot in the nation according to both D1 Baseball and Baseball America, marking a historic moment in their inaugural SEC campaign. With a 29-5 overall record and a dominant 13-2 mark in SEC play, the Longhorns are proving they are a force to be reckoned with.
Texas began the season ranked No. 19, but they have emerged as one of the strongest programs in the Southeastern Conference and all of college baseball. A revamped starting pitching lineup which includes transfers Jared Spencer and Ruger Riojas have proven to be key components in Jim Schlossnagle’s strategy.
The Longhorns secured their fifth consecutive series victory in conference play, including a sweep of Georgia and wins over Mississippi State, LSU and Missouri this season. This past weekend, Texas took two of three games from the Kentucky Wildcats at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington.
No. 1 Texas is set to face UTRGV on Tuesday night before hosting No. 8 Auburn in a three-game series at Disch-Falk Field.
